My Creative Journey

My journey into the world of graphic design began in high school, where a simple curiosity for art evolved into a deep, driving passion. I’ve always been fascinated by how visuals—colors, shapes, fonts, and layouts—can influence emotions, shape opinions, and guide our everyday decisions without us even realizing it.Before I ever stepped into a classroom for formal training, I was already exploring design on my own—teaching myself through online tutorials, experimenting with free software, and constantly creating. I became obsessed with the idea that design wasn’t just decoration—it was communication.Eventually, this passion led me to pursue a degree in graphic design, where I was able to refine my skills, learn design theory, and explore new tools and methods that elevated my work. But even in school, that self-taught mindset stuck with me—I stayed curious, always eager to push boundaries and find my unique voice as a designer. As I moved through my design education, I began building a strong foundation in the essential tools of the trade—Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and page layout design quickly became second nature. These programs opened up a new level of creative expression for me, allowing me to take my ideas from rough sketches to polished visuals that communicated meaning and emotion.Learning these tools wasn’t just about mastering software—it was about understanding the why behind design choices. I became more intentional with typography, layout balance, and color theory, and I started to see how every design decision plays a role in the overall message. Whether it was designing a logo, crafting a brand identity, or working on print layouts, I learned to approach each project with strategy and clarity. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced—especially in freelance work—has been dealing with creative block. There were moments when I’d sit in front of a blank screen, knowing I needed to deliver but feeling stuck or unsure how to bring a client’s vision to life. Over time, I’ve learned that creative block is part of the process. I’ve developed strategies to overcome it—whether that means stepping away to reset, seeking inspiration outside of design, or simply reminding myself that the first draft doesn't have to be perfect. I’ve never felt confined to just one aesthetic. I take influence from all styles—from minimalist Swiss design to bold, expressive street art. I believe that versatility is one of the most powerful tools a designer can have, and I strive to adapt my visual language to meet the needs of each project while still leaving a piece of myself in every design. My minor in art history during college played a major role in expanding my creative perspective. Studying the evolution of art—how it responded to culture, politics, and technology—taught me to look deeper into visual storytelling. Whether it's the elegance of Renaissance composition, the rebellious energy of Dadaism, or the clean, functional design of the Bauhaus movement, I’ve drawn inspiration from across time periods and artistic movements. This background helps me see the connections between traditional art and modern design, and it often influences the textures, colors, and compositions I use in my work.Rather than chasing trends, I aim to create designs that are thoughtful, balanced, and rooted in both function and aesthetic. I enjoy the challenge of blending historical influence with contemporary needs—whether I’m designing a brand identity, working on editorial layouts, or creating digital assets.Currently, I’m working at a company that collaborates with large brands, helping shape and maintain their identities. While I don’t have any active personal passion projects at the moment, this role has pushed me in new and exciting ways. Designing within the framework of established brand guidelines requires a different kind of creativity—one that values consistency, clarity, and precision just as much as originality.Working with well-known brands means every design decision is high-stakes. It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about strategic communication, understanding audience expectations, and reinforcing a brand’s presence across multiple platforms. I've had the opportunity to work on projects that reach wide audiences, and there’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing my work plays a part in how people connect with a brand on a national or even global level.Though the nature of the work can be fast-paced and structured, it’s also taught me the importance of collaboration, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving within constraints. These are skills I know I’ll carry with me wherever my creative path leads next.
